I have always been a maker of things and wood is my favorite material to make things out of.
I think it was Barbara Hepworth that said “Carving is at the heart of sculpture”; it certainly feels that way to me.
It’s good exercise; keeps you warm in a drafty workshop;
it’s therapeutic; except when things don’t work out; and it can be low technology; time away from the CNC machine.
It’s also about interacting with a special material and feeling part of the wider world.
